Day 1 Arrive Toronto On arrival into Toronto transfer (own cost) to your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring on your own.
Day 2 Niagara Falls Day Tour Travel by air-conditioned motorcoach for a breathtaking, full-day tour through the orchard-laden Niagara Peninsula to Niagara Falls, one of the great wonders of the world. Tour includes: Hornblower Niagara Falls Cruise or Journey Behind the Falls, a meal overlooking Niagara Falls, free time in Niagara on the Lake and a winery tour including a wine tasting.
Day 3 Toronto to Jasper (VIA Rail) This evening, check in at Toronto’s Union Station and board VIA Rail’s ‘Canadian’ for the famous train journey across the prairies to the Canadian Rockies. Travel back in time to the days of classic rail travel. The original stainless steel ‘streamliner’ railcars, made famous by the ‘Canadian’ in the 1950s, are totally refurbished with air conditioning, a café car, lounge car, and access to the dome car.
Exclusive to Sleeper Touring Class: By day, sit back in comfortable seating and enjoy the stretch out comfort of your very own accommodation. At night attendants will transform your quarters into cozy bunks or a bedroom. Guests have access to the Park Car, always at the tail end of the train whose tapered shape gives the car its distinctive look.
Day 4 On-board VIA Rail Today is spent crossing the scenic lake lands of northern Ontario. (breakfast, lunch & dinner is included today)
Day 5 On-board VIA Rail Continue west through the provinces of Northern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the breadbasket of Canada with its golden wheat fields stretching as far as the eye can see. (breakfast, lunch & dinner is included today)
Day 6 Arrive Jasper (Rail) This morning awake to arrive in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, after a brief stop continue on for the final leg of your rail journey to Jasper. This small alpine community located in the majestic Canadian Rockies will be home for the next two nights. (breakfast is included today)
Day 7 Jasper Sightseeing Explore this charming mountain village close to many terrific scenic highlights. Take a tram ride up Whistlers Mountain, or visit Maligne Lake, one of the most photographed lakes in the world, and enjoy a 90-minute cruise heading toward the south end of this postcard setting (cruise not included). You will marvel at the magnificent shoreline with dense forest and glacial peaks rising abruptly from the water’s edge. Stopping at Spirit Island, you will have the opportunity to take your own version of the world famous photograph of the lake.
Day 8 Jasper to Banff (292 km/182 mi) Your scenic drive today takes you along the Icefields Parkway through the spine of the Canadian Rockies. View a never-ending procession of mammoth mountains, jagged peaks, over 100 glaciers and pristine emerald coloured lakes. Along the way see such sights as the Columbia Icefield and take an Ice Explorer ride out onto the glacier (included). Also watch for the Sarbach Glacier, Peyto Lake, Bow Lake, with the Bow Glacier providing the backdrop, and Crowfoot Glacier before your arrival into Lake Louise. From Lake Louise choose the Bow Valley Parkway, beside the Bow River with an option for you to take a stop at Johnston Canyon and walk along the paved footpath to either the lower or upper waterfalls before continuing to Banff.
Day 9 Banff Exploring (Banff Gondola) A full day to explore Banff. Check out the Cave and Basin National Historic Site (not included) and Banff Gondola (included) where you will see a panoramic view of the Bow Valley, and then take a dip in the hot mineral pools at the Upper Hot Springs (included).
Day 10 Banff to Sun Peaks (496 km/310 mi) Your drive today is on the famed Trans Canada Highway, following a route charted by the railroad engineers and fur traders of the mid 1800s. Leaving Banff National Park, travel to Yoho National Park where you cross the continental divide. Then drive through Glacier National Park and ‘Rogers Pass’ with spectacular mountain vistas in every direction. Continue through the Monashee Mountain range and on to Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops.
Day 11 Sun Peaks to Vancouver (326 km/203 mi) Begin the day travelling along Logan Lake route to the Gold Rush Town of Cache Creek, where you stop to visit the historic Hat Creek Ranch (included), which literally takes you back to the days of the Gold Rush. Continue the journey south to Lillooet, known as the land of the Gold Rush Trail and ‘Mile Zero’ of the Old Caribou Wagon Road during the Gold Rush Years. Now the area is home to the largest Canadian producers of the medicinal plant Ginseng. Departing Lillooet, travel the Duffey Lake Road to Whistler. On the upper elevations of the Duffey Lake Road enjoy breath-taking views of Joffre Glacier and snow-capped Mount Currie that rises to a height of 2596 meters. Continue on through the mountain village of Whistler and along the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway to Vancouver. Highlights along the way include the cascading Shannon Falls and the Stawamus Chief Rock where climbers from all over the globe migrate to climb the granite cliffs.
Day 12 Vancouver Your Trans Canada Rail and Drive Trip concludes today by checking out of your hotel and with the return of your rental vehicle.
